Shonto Project

We’re pleased to announce that the Local Project has started a new partnership with the Shonto Chapter of the Navajo Nation. It should be a long partnership involving many different projects including:

  • Solar and wind to help the tribe find sustainable sources of energy;
  • New bike and hiking trails to encourage environmental tourism;
  • Tamarisk control to prevent them (an invasive species) from interfering with water;
  • Water supply to ensure that the tribe has a consistent source of drinking water as the current tank people fill from may either run out or overflow on occasion;

These projects are to be started in the Fall semester, but a few site visits have already occurred.
